Conferenceseries LLC proudly welcomes you to the 2nd International Conference on Spine and Spinal Disorders to be held during July 24-26, 2017 at Rome, ItalySpine Conference will be organized around the theme “Tearing down the veil to a better Spine health”.

Spine 2017  has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Committee.

The live format of this educational activity will be accredited with CME and CPD Credits.

Spine is a vital part of your body which supports majority of your body weight and enables you to gain control over your sensation and movements. Spinal disorders are extremely common, it ranges from infants to the elderly, so also spinal trauma. Spinal health has gigantic impact on life.

Track 1: Spine

The human spine is a strong independent structure of 33 bones (vertebrae) joined by ligaments and muscles. It extends from the skull to pelvis. The vertebra is classified into different regions: Cervical, thoracic, lumbar, sacrum, and coccyx. An intervertebral disc divides and protects each vertebra in the spine. Thirty-one pairs of spinal nerves originate from the spinal cord, transmitting signals to and fro between the body and the spinal cord.

Spine damage seriously impairs the capability of one’s control over sensation and movement. A neutral spine refers to the "three natural curves present in a healthy spine". The correct alignment of body lays minimal pressure on the spine and facilitates a fine posture.

Track 2: Spinal Cord

Throughout the year, around the globe, between 250 000 and 500 000 people encounters spinal cord injury. Spine fractures occur from a sudden blow or injury to the vertebrae Treatment of spinal fractures encompasses the realignment of fragments of Spine and maintaining the alignment until the bone has healed. Some fractures heal via external bracing while others may require surgical approach with implanted screws, hooks and connecting rods on the spine. By the year 2020 the spinal fusion market is expected to hit $6.9 billion. As per the report from Millennium Research Group, the global spinal disorders market will triple in size through 2022 to surpass $1.6 billion. The global spinal implant market was valued at over $5 billion in the year 2008 and has expanded to more than $7.5 billion in 2013.

Track 3: Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a spinal disorder that occurs from the compression of cervical spine or the spinal nerve roots in the lumbar spine . Acute stenosis is commonly seen in older people- 30.4% of the Japanese population face severe stenosis. The symptoms of Stenosis comprises of pain in legs and leg tingling, weakness, or numbness. Arm pain is a symptom of spinal stenosis. Trouble with coordination is common in the case of spinal stenosis with myelopathy. Stenosis treatment involves non-surgical approach or back surgery.

Track 4: Sciatica

Sciatica is the low back pain, that emanates into the buttocks, hip, and down one leg to the foot. It affects 15% to 40% people. People between the age of 30 and 50 years are at a high risk of sciatica. Herniated disk, spinal tumor, trauma, infection, and inflammation, degenerative arthritis, vascular abnormalities in and around spine are the major causes for sciatica. Over 80% to 90% of people with sciatica recover without any surgery. A complete history of the patient with physical examination determines the zone of the irritated nerve root. MRI and CT are the widely used diagnostic tests for sciatica.

Most patients with sciatica respond fairly well to nonsurgical treatments as a result spine surgery is seldom needed for treatment. However, there are situations when spine surgery is critical.

Track 5: Scoliosis Spine

Scoliosis refers to abnormal condition of spine where the spine curves laterally in the frontal region. This could be as a result of irregular muscles on both the sides of the spine, uneven hips, arm, or legs, or an abnormal rib cage rotation. Idiopathic scoliosis is the most commonly seen form of the condition.

Years of poor posture or conditions such as Ankylosing Spondylitis, Scheuermann disease or Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis (DISH) can result in Kyphosis. It refers to the abnormal condition with outward curvature of the thoracic. It is more prevalent among the elderly. Kyphosis causes imbalance because of abnormal spineflexion. Kyphosis is affects 4-8% of the general population.

Lordosis refers to the abnormal curvature of the lumbar spine resulting in low back pain as well as muscle spasms. It is commonly seen in dancers and individuals who do not lift weight well and those who have irregular muscles between the abdomen and lower back.

If the spine is 50 degrees or greater than the normal range of curvature, surgery is necessary. Chiropractic therapy can stop, or even reverse the symptoms of abnormal spinal curvature.

Track 7: Spondylolisthesis

Spondylolysis and Spondylolisthesis impair the alignment of vertebrae caused by the damage of moveable joints of the spine. They are the typical reasons for back pain in children and adolescents. Spondylolysis causes the bony bridges connecting the upper and lower facet joints to be fragile resulting in fracture that could occur at any level of the spine. This weakness causes the slippage of vertebrae off their normal position hence resulting in spondylolisthesis. Some Spondylolysis patients develop spondylolisthesis as well.

Track 8: Whiplash and Spine

Whiplash refers to the injury to the neck caused by motor vehicle or car accident. Over 120,000 whiplash injuries occur in the US every year. Up to 10% patients with whiplash injury become totally disabled. Whiplash injuries account for greater than 65% of all injury claims. In Canada, whiplash injuries account for approximately 2 million insurance claims every year. In Britain, the economic cost exceeds $600 million annually (ICBC). About 300,000 of these become disabled. Cervicalgia refers to neck pain that occur towards the rear end of the cervical vertebrae. It affects the nerves arising from the cervical vertebrae. Whiplash or bad posture or lying position can also result in cervicalgia.

Certain tests like MRI, X-ray, and CT scan are used to diagnose certain spinal disorders. Spine surgery may be needed in rare cases. In he absence of proper medical treatment, it could become a serious condition.

Track 10: Spina Bifida

Spina bifida refers to a neural tube defect characterized by the poor development of spinal cord, and/or meninges.140,000 NTD cases arise per year globally. Occulta, closed neural tube defects, meningocele, and myelomeningocele are the types of Spina bifida. Occulta is the mildest and the most common. The exact cause of spina bifida remains a mystery. Research indicates that insufficient intake of folic acid-a common B vitamin-in the mother's diet is the main factor in spina bifida. Treatment of this defect depends on the type as well as severity of the disorder. Children with mild case of spina bifida needs no treatment; however some may require surgery as they grow.

Track 11: Back pain and Spine

Back pain  is one of the most widely seen medical problems, affecting 8 out of 10 people in their lifetime. Back pain ranges from a mild, constant pain to a sudden, sharp pain. Acute back pain occurs suddenly and usually lasts a few days to a few weeks. Back pain is termed chronic if it lasts for more than three months. Most back pain fades away on its own. Consuming over-the-counter pain relievers and resting helps. However, staying in bed for more than 1 or 2 days makes it worse. Treatment for back pain depends on the kind of pain one has, and the cause. It may also include medicines, hot packs or cold packs, various exercises, complementary treatments, injections, and in rare cases surgery.

Track 13: Osteoporosis and Spine

Osteoporosis is a systemic disease widely characterized by low bone mass and micro-architectural degradation of bone tissue, causing an elevated risk of fracture. It affects everyone in the long run and has become a part of normal aging. However some people develop osteoporosis at an earlier stage in their life as a result of various illnesses or due to hormone deficiency states. Approximately 1.5 million people suffer from a osteoporosis fracture every year and an estimated 700,000 of them experiences spinal fracture. In Europe, the disability due to osteoporosis is much greater than that caused by cancers.

The use of biomarkers facilitates the early diagnosis of osteoporosis .Ultrasound, Dual X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) and Quantitative Computed Tomography (QCT) are other commonly used diagnostic tools. Treatment ofosteoporosis is cost-effective irrespective of age and therapies with proven quick efficacy may offer significant value to healthcare providers and patients.

It consists of 5 vertebral bones, the sacrum, and the coccyx that protects vertebral column. Lumbar puncture is a medical procedure, mainly carried out to procure cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and analyse it to strike out potential fatal conditions and also for many therapeutic purposes. CSF analysis can also assist the diagnosis of several serious conditions.

32 % of the patients experience severe headache prior lumbar puncture and carries a substantial morbidity. The symptoms may last for several days and at times extreme enough to immobilize the patient. If left untreated, it can cause fatal complications like subdural haematoma and seizures. Ultrasound-guided lumbar puncture has proved most helpful to almost 75% of obese patients with spinal disorders.

The market for lumbar puncture is expanding day by day. The average cost of the procedure is $353. Typically, the total cost for lumbar puncture is $3,000-$5,000. Some of the key players in this market are Affymetrix Inc., Abbott Laboratories, Inc., Becton-Dickinson Company, Beckman Coulter Inc., Diamedix Corporation, Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc and DiaSorin S.p.A., Gen-Probe, Inc., Fujirebio Diagnostics, Inc., Novartis Diagnostics, Hologic, Inc., and Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Inc.

Track 16: Spine Tumor

spinal tumor refers to abnormal cell growth in or surrounding the spinal cord. Any type of tumor could occur in the spine, (Lymphoma, Leukaemia and Myeloma). A few spinal tumors may arise in the nerves of the spinal cord itself. Mostly these are ependymomas and other gliomas. Tumors that commence in spinal tissue are called primary spinal tumors. Tumors which spread to spine from some other area (metastasize) are called secondaryspinal tumors. Tumors may also spread to spine from the breast, prostate, lung, and other regions. The cause of primary spinal tumors is yet unknown. Some primary spinal tumors occur as a result of certain inherited gene mutations.

Track 17: Spine Therapy

Injury to the spinal cord could lead to paraplegia and quadriplegia. Even though only partially restorative treatments are available for spinal cord injury, a number of rehabilitative, cellular and molecular therapies have been tested in animal models. Several of these potential therapies have already reached or are pacing towards the clinical trials. A combination of strategies have developed as individual therapies doesn't stand a good chance of a positive result, Primary scientific research must provide a basis for generating specific combinations of clinical therapies to different types of spinal cord injuries.

About Conference

Conferenceseries LLC proudly welcomes you to the 2nd International Conference on Spine and Spinal Disorders to be held during July 24-26, 2017 at Rome, Italy

Spine 2017 will be organized around the theme “Tearing down the veil to a better Spine health”.

Spine is a series of vertebrae separated by intervertebral disks extending from the skull to the small of the back. It is a vital part of your body which supports majority of your body weight and enables you to gain control over your sensation and movements. Spinal diseases and spinal disorders often cause pain when bone changes put pressure on the spinal cord or nerves. They can also limit movement. Treatments differ by disease, but sometimes they include back braces and surgery. Spinal disorders are extremely common- it ranges from infants to the elderly; so also spinal trauma. Spinal health has gigantic impact on life.

Spina bifida occurs in seven of out every 10,000 live births in the United States. The average total lifetime cost to society for each infant born with spina bifida is approximately $532,000 per child. This estimate is only an average and for many children the total cost may be well above $1 million. Estimated annual medical care and surgical costs for persons with spina bifida in the United States exceed $200 million. Sciatica is a relatively common problem. About 90% of the time sciatica is due to a spinal disc herniation pressing on one of the lumbar or sacral nerve roots. Spondylolisthesisspinal stenosis, piriformis syndrome, pelvic tumors, and compression by a baby's head during pregnancy may also contribute to sciatica. Scoliosis is a multifactorial disorder, which requires multidisciplinary research and treatment; affecting 2-3% of the population and there is no cure. Scoliosis impacts infants, adolescents, and adults worldwide, the primary age of onset being 10-15 years old. Kyphosis is often related to osteoporosis but in children it can be due to injury, a tumor on the spine, or a genetic disorder, such as spina bifidaOsteoporosis is the most common cause of fractures. Worldwide, osteoporosis causes more than 8.9 million fractures annually, resulting in an osteoporotic fracture every 3 seconds. The risk of a fracture increases with age and is greatest in women.

Italy, the 10th  largest country in Europe with a population of 59.83 million,stands third in the list of highest incidence of spine injury cases in Europe with 23.5 injuries per million per year. Most recent estimates from Europe indicate motor vehicle crashes to be the leading cause of SCIs in regions of Italy followed by falls (24.6%).Most motor vehicle crashes leads to whiplash injury which later results in cervicalgia. More than 1,500 whiplash claims are made in the Italy every day. More than 50% of whiplash cases resolve after a few weeks of treatment. However, approximately 30% of cases become chronic and persist for months or years.Globally every year between 250,000 and 500,000 people suffer spinal cord injury. In Europe around 333,000 are currently affected.

Italy has over 100 universities and 200 hospitals working in the field Spine and Spinal disorders. There are more than 20 associations and many rehabilitation agencies operating for Spinal care.

The market for spinal surgery devices is being driven forward, as patients are offered safer, more reliable surgery. The global spinal surgery devices market is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 4% from $6.5 billion in 2011 to $8.7 billion in 2018. Spinal fusions increased 77 % from 2002 to 2011, and the demand will continue to grow as the indications for fusion expand. The European minimally invasive surgery spinal implant market is expected to exceed 92 million by 2018. For more

Importance and Scope:

The following report studies the spinal implants and spinal devices market over the forecast period of 2015 to 2020. The market is expected to reach USD 15.73 Billion by 2020 i.e.; growing at a CAGR of 5.6% from 2015 to 2020.

A number of factors include rising incidence and prevalence of spinal disorders; development of technologically advanced, safer, and cost-effective spinal devices; global rise in the old age and obese population; and rising demand for minimally invasive spine surgery are fuelling the growth of the spinal implants and spinal devices market. On the other hand, stringent regulatory guidelines for the approval of new medical devices, high procedural costs, and lack of adequate reimbursements in developing countries are restricting the growth of the global spinal implants and spinal devices market.

As of 2015, North America is estimated to hold the largest share of the global spinal implants and spinal devices market, followed by Europe. However, the Asia-Pacific market is expected to grow at the highest CAGR of 8.2% from 2015 to 2020. A number of factors, including rising healthcare expenditure in developing nations owing to growing income levels, increasing government funding, presence of a large patient population, rising obesity cases, and growing awareness on the newly developed spine treatment techniques and devices are propelling the growth of the spinal implants and spinal devices market in the Asia-Pacific region. However, challenges associated with this market, such as scarcity of expertise and trained healthcare workers and lack of adequate patient awareness restricts the market growth in this region.

Medtronic, plc (U.S.), DePuy Synthes (U.S.), Stryker Corporation (U.S.), NuVasive, Inc. (U.S.), Zimmer Biomet Holdings, Inc. (U.S.), Globus Medical, Inc. (U.S.), Alphatec Holdings, Inc. (U.S.), Orthofix International N.V. (Netherlands), K2M Group Holdings, Inc. (U.S.), and LDR Holding Corporation (U.S.) are the key players operating in the global spinal implants and spinal devices market.

The European spine surgery devices market is expected to reach USD 2.37 billion by 2020, at a CAGR of 6.1% from 2015 to 2020. The factors contributing towards the growth of this market are increase in the incidences of spinal deformities, such as disc compression among the aging population in the European region as well as popularity of non-fusion devices, such as artificial spinal disc and nucleus. The increasing aging population, along with the advancement in medical technologies (minimally invasive techniques and biologics), is driving the demand for the spine surgery devices market in this region.

Millennium Research Group reported in January 2014 the global market for spinal non fusion will nearly triple in size through 2022. It is expected to surpass $1.6 billion, driven by the emerging Asia Pacific, Brazil, India and China markets. The Asia Pacific spinal implant and bone growth substitute market is projected to reach $7 billion by 2022, according to a Decision Resources Group report. Despite some significant downward pressures, the United States market for minimally invasive (MI) spine technologies will grow strongly, reaching nearly $2 billion by 2017. The European minimally invasive surgery spinal implant market is expected to exceed 92 million by 2018.
